There are many ways to improve your smile, and there are different approaches to Smile Design.
To customise a complete treatment proposal for Smile Design based on one’s expectations, budget and time, our doctor will need to conduct a detailed and thorough examination before giving any clinical advice.
Our approach is conservative. We want to retain as much tooth structure as possible and keep your teeth alive, while aligning with your expectations and requirements. As such, orthodontic treatment may be required as part of the smile design treatment journey.
Orthodontic treatment plays a crucial part in the Smile Design process. By moving the teeth to their optimal location and alignment, we can achieve a desired smile with minimum damages to natural teeth. Restorations that are well supported by tooth structure will last longer.
Improved teeth alignment allows better access for daily oral hygiene maintenance.
Smile Design DOES NOT replace orthodontic treatment; it works hand in hand to achieve better results. We believe that any Smile Design journey for our patients begins with understanding of your expectations and ideal planning, to giving long lasting results without compromising aesthetics, function and ease of maintenance.
Some dentists are adopting invasive approaches to shorten the treatment time. However, such approaches may create another set of issues that may need rectifications in the future.
For instance, a healthy tooth that went through elective root canal treatment will discolor over time. Therefore, an additional procedure is required to correct the discoloration. The root canal treated tooth is weaker compared to a healthy tooth, the support for the prosthesis (veneer/crown) is less than ideal. The longevity of the prosthesis will be comparatively shorter.
For the worst case scenario, the whole Smile Design procedure may need to restart from the beginning.
