Smile Design Dental Practice was founded in 2017. We are your community dental clinic, your family's dentist. After practising professionally for over two decades locally and overseas, in both government and private sectors, Dr Gordon Tam believes in treating you the way he wants his loved ones to be treated.


We believe that 'how we do anything is how we do everything.' We know that there is no division between private and professional lives. This is especially true in terms of our value systems, philosophy and fundamental beliefs to 'do the right thing'.


We understand the importance of staying current with technology, and acquiring the necessary equipment and knowledge enables us to provide you with better care. We focus on listening and addressing your concerns, providing customized solutions with your best interests at heart. 


Our practice is equipped with dental operating microscopes, intraoral cameras, a Cone-Beam CT scanner, a digital X-ray machine, a CAD/CAM scanner and milling unit, multiple digital scanners, a laser machine, and 3D printers.

While dental operating microscopes remain uncommon in most general dental practices, every treatment room in our clinic is fully equipped with one.

Adding to the diagnostic abilities, we have the latest generations of intraoral scanner, the 3Shape TRIOS 6, which evolves beyond ‘digital impressions’. This scanner acts as a diagnostic communication tool and platform that combines high-resolution scanning, AI-assisted analysis and consistent dental health monitoring. It analyses subtle optical and surface changes that may be challenging to identify with the conventional visual examination. This allows us to work closely together for early detection and monitoring of your dental health.

Same Day Ceramic Restorations


Through intraoral images, video recordings, detailed microscope observations, and highly defined X-ray images with a low radiation dose from the cone beam CT X-ray machine, this equipment and these technologies enable us to accurately detect dental issues, treat them efficiently, and shorten treatment times.

  • Dental radiographs and intraoral photographs taken during the appointments are yours to keep. You may request a digital copy after the appointment.

 

Tooth-by-Tooth  Dental Examination 

 

  • Conduct a thorough examination of each tooth.


  • Use a high-definition intraoral camera to document your findings by taking photographs of individual teeth and their surfaces. This helps us identify any potential issues, such as early decay, cracked teeth, or tooth wear.

  • AI-Assistive Diagnostics Scanning with 3Shape TRIOS 6 of your upper and lower jaw for dental analysis, document findings and monitor your dental health periodically.

  • Utilize a dental microscope, which allows our doctors to see details that the naked eye cannot detect.

  • If necessary, X-rays will be taken to identify problems and examine details beneath existing fillings, under the gums, and inside the jawbone. This includes checking for unerupted wisdom teeth, buried teeth, or cysts.
  • Cone-Beam CT diagnostic scan for cases such as assessment for complex root canal anatomy to detect hidden or extreme curved canals, evaluate impacted wisdom tooth relation to the vital nerves or sinus area, precise measurements and planning for dental implant placements, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues.


  • Perform a digital scan of your upper and lower jaw for dental analysis and to record findings.eg, unerupted wisdom teeth, buried tooth, cysts)

Safety

 

  •  Digital X-rays use extremely low radiation compared to traditional X-ray film. 


  • A rubber dam is used to protect against the ingestion of debris and to prevent contamination of the tooth from blood and saliva during treatment. 


  • New personalized endodontic instruments for root canal procedures help eliminate the risk of cross-infection. 


  • All equipment and instruments are sterilized in an autoclave at a high temperature of 121 degrees Celsius and under high pressure. 


  • Each instrument is individually packaged in sterilized pouches to maintain a high level of infection control.

Comfort

 

  • Numbing gel is applied before administering local anesthesia.


  • Anesthesia cartridges are warmed up to 42 degrees Celsius to reduce the discomfort of the injection.


  • Warm water for rinsing during treatment to reduce tooth sensitivity.


  • Sedation option is available for complex cases or nervous patients.


  • A companion is welcome to accompany you during treatments.


  • A private room is reserved for rest in between long treatments, recovery after (sedation) procedures and privacy for families with nursing babies.


  • Wide range of snacks and refreshments with artisan coffee and renowned tea selection for our patients.
