Traditionally, old porcelain-fused-to-metal crown was commonly used. However, with the improving technology and an aesthetic choice, all-porcelain tooth-colored crown is used. We will no longer see the dark line from the metal in the crown anymore.
During the first visit, your dentist will shape the teeth to mimic the final restoration so to provide stable support and fit, together with the crowns and bridges. Teeth impressions are taken, creating a replica for the dental laboratory to model it to make the final restoration. You can get to choose the color, shape and size of the crown and bridge, matching with the rest of the teeth. A temporary restoration is done to protect and maintain the space left by the (missing) tooth until the new restoration is ready.
With the improvement of CAD-CAM technology, the crown could be fabricated within the same day and no temporary restoration is needed. When a dental crown is done in the same day, you will require lesser injections and visits to the clinic.
On the second visit (if necessary), our doctor will remove the temporary restoration, fitting in the crowns and bridges, making sure it fits and meets your expectations. After the restoration is adjusted and approved, it will be permanently secured with an adhesive bonding agent or cement.
