SMILE DESIGN
Smiling is an instinct that is innate in all of us. Some people smile brightly, confidently and very frequently. Many people envy smiles like these and want to smile with the same confidence.
Smile Design is an option worth exploring for individuals who feel that their smile is less than desired.
Everyone wants to have a unique and pleasant smile, and everyone has a different idea of what is a perfect smile. We understand that each individual has a different set of teeth (shape, size, alignment and shade). You may also have specific expectations, concerns, and desires, as well as time and budget constraints.
We customize a treatment plan for every individual who wishes to improve their smile.

What is Smile Design?
There are many ways to improve your smile, and various approaches to Smile Design.
To customize a comprehensive treatment proposal for Smile Design based on one’s expectations, budget, and time, our doctor will need to conduct a detailed and thorough examination before providing any clinical advice.
Our approach is conservative. We aim to preserve as much tooth structure as possible and maintain your teeth's health, aligning with your expectations and needs. As such, orthodontic treatment may be required as part of the smile design treatment journey.
Orthodontic treatment plays a crucial part in the Smile Design process. By moving the teeth to their optimal location and alignment, we can achieve a desired smile with minimal damage to natural teeth. Restorations that are well supported by tooth structure will last longer.
Improved teeth alignment allows better access for daily oral hygiene maintenance.
Smile Design DOES NOT replace orthodontic treatment; it works hand in hand to achieve better results. Any Smile Design journey for our patients begins with understanding their expectations and ideal planning, to giving long-lasting results without compromising aesthetics, function and ease of maintenance.
Some dentists are adopting invasive approaches to shorten the treatment time. However, such approaches may create another set of issues that need rectification in the future.
For instance, a healthy tooth that undergoes elective root canal treatment may discolour over time. Therefore, an additional procedure is required to correct the discolouration. A root canal-treated tooth is weaker than a healthy tooth, and the support for the prosthesis (veneer/crown) is less than ideal. The longevity of the prosthesis will be comparatively shorter.
In the worst-case scenario, the entire Smile Design procedure may need to be restarted from the beginning.
Smile Design Treatment Process
During the Smile Design process, Aesthetics, Function and Health are all equally important. At Smile Design Dental Practice, we believe that for any aesthetic work to be carried out, a strong and healthy foundation must be established first. This begins with healthy gums and teeth. Therefore, the consultation for Smile Design will also include a thorough examination and record of your gums and teeth.
We will propose a comprehensive treatment plan that restores our client's oral health to an optimal state, if required, before embarking on the Smile Design journey.
Our treatment plan emphasises the equal importance of Health, Function and Aesthetic. It will serve as the blueprint for the Smile Design. Upon receiving your approval, we will begin executing the treatment plan. After restoring the Health and Function of your oral condition, we will proceed to do mock-ups on the study model or reversible mock-ups on your teeth. You will have a preview of the final result before accepting the proposal.
Upon completing the Smile Design journey, we will guide you on how to maintain your new smile at home. We recommend maintaining regular dental check-ups and routine maintenance, as basic dental care at home is often insufficient.
