Sedation

Dental procedures/ surgeries can be mentally stressful and intimidating for some people. Very often, bad experiences from past treatments could scar you. At Smile Design Dental Practice, we offer the option of dental sedation. Dental sedation is a common procedure; many patients opt for it when receiving their treatments.

Sedation usually goes with procedures like extraction or surgical removal of multiple teeth. It is also a popular option for nervous patients or patients who simply prefer to be put to sleep during dental procedures. In fact, any procedure can be done under sedation! Opting for sedation provides for a better overall experience at the dental clinic as it allows patients to receive treatment in a comfortable and stress-free manner.

Below are some of the commonly asked questions about sedation:

1. Is sedation safe?

Sedation is safe, but only in experienced hands. Smile Design Dental Practice is fully equipped and accredited by the Ministry of Health of Singapore to offer the option of sedation in our clinic. We have an anesthetist who is a medical doctor that specializes in sedation, to be present to ensure your safety during the entire process of your dental treatment.

2. How do I know if I'm suitable?

Talk to us! We will schedule you for a consultation, listen to your concerns, and advise you accordingly after assessing your medical history. We do require you to answer some simple questions as well as to provide us with your past medical reports to determine your suitability.

3. Is sedation Medisave claimable?

Procedures adjunct to the surgery (i.e sedation) are not Medisave claimable. Medisave claims are usually allowed only for surgical procedures (i.e. wisdom tooth surgery, implant surgery, cyst removal surgery).

4. What should I expect?

As a form of preparation, you will be required to fast 8 hours before the sedation. After your surgery, we will provide a private and quiet room for you to rest and recover from the sedation comfortably. A trusted adult should also be present to accompany you home when you are well enough to leave the clinic.

5. Will I go hungry?

As most procedures are done early in the morning, it will just feel as though you have skipped breakfast. As soon as you recover from the sedation, we will provide you with complimentary refreshments. You may resume with your normal diet shortly after.
