Same-Day Dental Restorations – Precision-Made, Without the Long Wait

Gordon Tam • October 30, 2026

When time matters to you…

Now, we can digitally scan, design and manufacture your customised dental restorations in a single visit.

At Smile Design Dental Practice, we believe that quality dental care should not only deliver precise, long-lasting results but also provide a comfortable and convenient experience.

Traditionally, ceramic crowns and restorations, made of glass porcelain or zirconium oxide, require multiple appointments. Dental impressions are taken and sent to an external laboratory for fabrication, often taking several days or weeks. During this period, patients may need to wear temporary restorations before returning for their final fitting.

Now, with our advanced digital scanners, in-house CAD/CAM technology and precision milling equipment, we can complete your ceramic restoration on the same day (under 3 hours), all under one roof.

How Does Same-Day Restoration Work?

Step 1: Digital Scanning – Comfortable and Precise

Instead of traditional impression materials, we use advanced intraoral scanners to capture highly detailed 3D images of your teeth.

This digital process is quicker, more comfortable and eliminates the need for messy impression materials.

Step 2: Digital Design – Customised for Your Teeth

Using computer-aided design (CAD) technology, we carefully design your restoration to match your individual tooth structure, bite and functional requirements.

This allows us to plan the restoration with precision while preserving as much healthy natural tooth structure as clinically appropriate.

Step 3: In-House Milling – Made While You Wait

Once the design is finalised, our in-house milling equipment precisely fabricates your restoration from a high-quality dental ceramic block.

Depending on the material, additional finishing, crystallisation or sintering processes may be required to achieve the desired strength, fit and appearance.

Step 4: Final Fitting – Completed in One Visit

Your dentist carefully checks the restoration's fit, bite and appearance before securely bonding or cementing it into place.

For suitable cases, the entire process can be completed during a single appointment.

What Does This Mean for You?

Fewer Appointments, More Time Saved

Instead of arranging two or more dental visits, you can have your restoration designed, manufactured and fitted in one appointment.

This means less disruption to your work, family commitments and busy lifestyle.

Fewer Injections, Greater Comfort

Traditional crown procedures often require local anaesthesia during the initial preparation and sometimes again during the final fitting.

By completing the restoration in one visit, we can often reduce the need for repeated anaesthetic injections.

Fewer visits and potentially fewer injections contribute to a more comfortable overall experience.

No Temporary Crowns or Prolonged Waiting

Temporary restorations can sometimes feel uncomfortable, become loose or require extra care while waiting for the permanent crown.

With same-day restorations, suitable patients can avoid this temporary stage altogether. You leave with your definitive restoration fitted, rather than waiting days or weeks for laboratory fabrication.

Precision and Quality, All Under One Roof

Having our digital design and manufacturing process in-house gives us greater control over every stage of your restoration.

Our dentists can assess the digital design, refine the restoration and make adjustments efficiently without the delays associated with sending work back to an external laboratory.

This integrated workflow helps us maintain high standards of precision, fit and quality while improving treatment efficiency.

A More Seamless, Personalised Experience

From the initial digital scan to the final restoration, your treatment is managed within our clinic. You don't need to coordinate multiple appointments around external laboratory schedules.

Our aim is to make your dental journey more efficient, predictable and comfortable, without compromising the attention to detail that quality dentistry requires.

Digital Dentistry & CAD/CAM Technology:  Less Waiting. Better Experience.

At Smile Design Dental Practice, our investment in digital scanners, CAD/CAM design and in-house milling technology is not simply about having advanced equipment.

It is about what this technology allows us to do for you.

We can now provide customised ceramic restorations with fewer appointments, less waiting, potentially fewer injections and greater convenience.

Because precision dentistry should not only restore your smile, but also make the entire treatment experience better.

Same-day restorations are available for suitable clinical cases. Treatment duration and suitability depend on the complexity of the restoration and individual dental conditions.

Your health checkup has a report card. Shouldn't your dental checkup have one too? When you go for a medical health screening, you receive a report showing important measurements — blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels and other health indicators. These numbers help you understand where your health stands, whether your results fall within acceptable ranges, and how they have changed compared to previous years. More importantly, they allow you and your doctor to identify potential concerns early, sometimes long before any symptoms appear.
